Why Mirador?

Mirador is a must for anyone interested in the history of the Maya and visiting ancient ruins.  There are many reasons to visit Mirador, below are just a few:

  • Mirador is heralded as The Cradle of Maya Civilization by leading experts and is one of the keys to understanding Maya society and the causes of their downfall.
  • Visiting Mirador provides you with the opportunity to be one of the few people who have visited this ancient treasure.   It is one of the few ancient wonders on earth that has not yet been discovered by tourism.
  • On a trip to Mirador you will see restoration, excavation and preservation in progress.  The archaeological work is ongoing and you will see up-close how the work is done.
  • A trip to Mirador is a perfect compliment to a visit to Tikal.  Visiting both of the once powerful cities from different periods (Classic and Preclassic) will give you a greater understanding of Mayan world.  In addition, visiting Mirador and Tikal result in an appreciation of the amount of work that goes into restoring and preserving ancient Mayan cities.
